Frequently Asked QuestionsDo I need to bring my own mat?Bringing your own mat is always a good idea. We do have a few mats at the studio for you to use if you are new to yoga and don’t currently own one. This is especially helpful if you have no idea what to go out and buy. Your mat is a very important part of your practice. You will spend hours and hours on your mat if you are planning on having an ongoing practice. We use, recommend and sell Manduka™ mats. Come in and give one a test ride, and see if Manduka™ is a good fit for you.It can make a huge difference to have a good mat while learning the postures. Having a good mat can take your practice to an entirely different level. Is it going to be HOT?Yes, the room will be hot while you are doing yoga at Yoga Tree. And no, we won’t turn on the fan. The heat will be set anywhere between 80° to 90° depending on the time of year, and the level of the class. We have a very good reason for making you hot. WE WANT YOU TO SWEAT! When you do yoga, your body releases lots of toxins and we want all of those toxins to come out your skin in the form of sweat and not stay in your body and make you nauseous and sick. As you continue with your practice, the heat will no longer bother you and you will even start to look forward to the sweat. Trust me. What do I wear?Ladies, here’s the basics - sports bra, athletic tops are always a great place to start. A tighter fighting t-shirt is good to. You will be spending time upside down and moving up and down from the floor a lot. So being confident that your shirt doesn’t fall over your head while upside down will defiantly make you feel more comfortable. Since it will be warm in the studio, some ladies find it better to wear a Capri or a shorter pant. For those with a more active practice may find it more comfortable to wear a longer athletic pant. Keep in mind that you will be moving around a lot and comfort is important. Gents, yoga pants are always a good choice. If you are more of a shorts kind of guy, then a pair of tighter fighting bike shorts under your loose fitting basketball shorts is a great plan. Remember you will be upside down quite a bit, and gravity is always working. Do I need to bring my own towel? We do provide clean towels for practice and if you are planning on taking a shower afterwards. We use a fragrance free, enzyme based laundry soap. You are welcome to bring your own towels. Please be aware that quite a few people that do yoga are fragrance and allergy sensitive. While you may really like the highly fragranced laundry products it may cause some serious breathing issues for your fellow yogis. Do I need to bring water? We do have water for you in the fridge but you are always welcome to bring your own. What class is for beginners? Our Vinyasa classes are taught for all levels and run for 60 minutes. Our Vinyasa II classes are taught for someone with a stronger practice by having a faster flow and runs for 75 minutes. Even if you are new to yoga, please feel free to come to any class that works into your busy life. Modifications are always an option if you become tired or confused. Ask the teacher after class to show you a few modifications. Also Childs pose is always available anytime during your practice. We also offer a Yoga 101 Workshop. It is an 8 week class that meets on Mondays at 5:15. It may be a more comfortable place for you to start your practice. Check the web site for sign up and cost. Will everyone in the class be skinny and really bendy?Nope, we have yogis that come in all shapes and sizes. We have beginners, mediums and yogis that have been practicing for over 30 years. We have yogis that are short and yogis that are tall. Some are flexible and some are really strong. We have yogis that have had a very steady practice over many years, and some that start and stop their practice at the drop of a hat. EVERYONE has their own practice on their own mat, during every class. As long as you come with an open mind and a loving hart, you will always be the most beautiful yogi in class. Are there guys in class?Yes, we have lots of guys, boys, husbands, brothers, boyfriends, friends, men, grandfathers, dads and sons. The best way to get the man in your life to come to yoga with you is to explain that in yoga, we teach you to lift your own body weight. And we do lots of push-ups. So this is a prime opportunity for him to impress you with his prime cut guns. Will someone steal my shoes if I leave them outside?Students leave their shoes outside the door for cleanliness and as a sign of respect for the space. We have never lost a pair as of yet. You may overestimate the appeal of your used shoes to our passersby. end faq
